Maine BPA Announces 25 Free BPI Building Analyst Training Grants

Maine BPA is offering 25 free Building Performance Institute (BPI) Building Analyst training grants with Build Green Maine and Kennebec Valley Community College to help meet the state's Climate Action Plan goals. BPI's Building Analyst certification is widely recognized and required, and the state aims to weatherize 1,000 low-income homes and 17,500 additional homes and businesses by 2025. Doubling the existing energy-efficiency workforce is essential to meeting these goals. To learn more, visit the Maine Climate Action Plan and request information through the provided link.

Maine BPA, an official BPA State Affiliate, recently announced 25 free Building Performance Institute (BPI) Building Analyst training grants in partnership with Build Green Maine and Kennebec Valley Community College (KVCC).

BPI’s Building Analyst certification is the most widely recognized and required designation throughout the United States. It is also the “gatekeeper certification” to many state and utility incentive programs. To obtain Building Analyst certification, Build Green Maine offers 20 hours of online instruction coupled with 8 hours of in-person training at one of their three test houses.

These training grants are a part of a much larger effort by the state of Maine, which has aggressive goals to meet its Climate Action Plan set forth by the governor’s office this year. “The state has goals of getting up to 1,000 low-income homes weatherized per year,” says Richard W. Riegel Burbank, a Maine BPA volunteer and founder of Evergreen Home Performance. Additionally, the state would like to double the current pace of weatherization in general so that at least 17,500 additional homes and businesses are weatherized by 2025, including the low-income units.

In order to meet these current goals, the state anticipates having to double their existing energy efficiency workforce.
