West Virginia Stakeholder Engagement
September 30, 2024
On September 25, 2024, the West Virginia Office of Energy (WVOE) held a public input session which covered updates and gathered feedback about the upcoming Home Energy Rebate programs.
Xavier Walter, BPA Director of Outreach and West Virginia resident, spoke about BPA’s work in the state and the need to drive development of the energy efficiency industry.
WVOE has entered a one-year planning phase, aiming to launch rebates by Fall 2025. Instead of the Justice40 Initiative’s 40% allocation for low-income consumers, WVOE plans to direct 60% of its funding to low-income households and underserved communities. They are also looking to partner with large retailers such as Lowe’s and Home Depot, while encouraging small businesses to get involved. In addition, WVOE is exploring the possibility of establishing a revolving loan fund to help lower upfront costs for consumers.
Stakeholders and those unable to attend the public input sessions are encouraged to submit comments via email to WVOEInfo@wv.gov by October 2. WVOE was allocated $88 million for the program and both rebate applications were submitted in early September.
