Best Practices to Support Energy Efficiency in Homes


The Building Performance Association (BPA) has released a new report, “Best Practices to Support Energy Efficiency in Homes.” This report presents results from a partnership between BPA and energy efficiency businesses to promote and implement best practices in the industry. BPA delivered targeted technical assistance and skills development to these businesses in exchange for collaboration on best practices. The best practices outlined offer clear, actionable steps to enhance operations, drive business growth, and reduce consumer energy costs.

Roundtable discussions with 20 businesses across 10 states identified key challenges and innovative solutions, leading to the selection of 11 companies that showcase effective strategies in residential energy efficiency. The insights emphasize the importance of clear project selection criteria, stronger onboarding and training systems, and expanded consumer education to support informed decision-making. Focusing on:

  • project Identification,
  • onboarding,
  • on-the-job training, and
  • consumer education and support.

This report enables businesses to build scalable models that improve productivity, reduce turnover, and create a more stable workforce while translating energy efficiency into real-world benefits like lower energy costs and improved home comfort. Overall, the project demonstrated early progress toward practical, scalable solutions and highlighted emerging practices that can support continued business growth when integrated into operations.
