The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has launched a free online training course for the Weatherization Assistance Program network: “Using DOE’s Energy Justice Mapping Tool to Enhance Weatherization Programs.”

Applicable to weatherization Grantees and Subgrantees, this training outlines how to use DOE’s Energy Justice Mapping Tool, the Disadvantaged Communities Reporter, to enhance program alignment with the Justice40 Initiative.

The Justice40 Initiative, created by Executive Order 14008, aims to ensure that at least 40% of the benefits of certain federal investments, including energy efficiency and clean energy, reach disadvantaged communities. The Disadvantaged Communities Reporter was developed to help identify these communities.

After this course, you will be able to:

  • Recognize the goals of the Justice40 Initiative
  • Discuss criteria used to define disadvantaged communities
  • Demonstrate how to use DOE’s Disadvantaged Communities Reporter Tool
  • Evaluate and highlight opportunities for better serving homes located in disadvantaged communities.
  • The self-paced interactive course includes a demonstration of the Disadvantaged Communities Reporter, an optional learning activity to test your knowledge, and additional online resources to support your Justice40 work.
