Building Energy Code Resources:

Effective April 7, 2025, Maine’s Uniform Building and Energy Code’s baseline energy code is the 2021 Edition of the International Energy Conservations Code (IECC).

Current Building Energy Codes in Maine:

The Maine Uniform Building and Energy Code (MUBEC) is made up of the following codes and standards:

• 2021 International Energy Conservation Code. 
• The following American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers (ASHRAE) standards are also adopted as part of MUBEC:
  • 2019 ASHRAE 62.1 (Ventilation for Acceptable Indoor Air Quality)
  • 2019 ASHRAE 62.2 (Ventilation and Acceptable Indoor Air Quality in Low-Rise Residential Buildings)
  • OR the CSA-F326-M91 Canadian Standards Association Standard for Residential Mechanical Ventilation Systems (Alternative to ASHRAE 62.2)
  • 2019 ASHRAE 90.1 (Energy Standard for Buildings except Low-Rise Residential Buildings) editions without addenda.
