BPA State Updates

Maryland – The Building Performance Association (BPA) is seeking feedback from home performance, HVACR, weatherization, and other contractors to inform the program design of the rebate programs in Maryland. Join us on May 9 from 9am – 12pm for an in-person contractor roundtable to share your input, which will be used to inform the Maryland Energy Administration (MEA) and the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). Massachusetts – Massachusetts BPA recently held its quarterly informational session via Zoom, during which guests including MassCEC and Mass Save gave presentations on new initiatives and updates. Watch the recording here.

West Virginia – West Virginia BPA recently hosted a webinar with partners Everblue and Coalfield Development to showcase apprenticeship opportunities in West Virginia and beyond. Watch the recording here.

State Industry News

Illinois – The Illinois Environmental Protection Agency (EPA)’s Office of Energy, the State Energy Office, announced a program aimed at funding energy efficiency assessments in residential properties located in environmental justice communities. The program, funded by the U.S. State Energy Program, enables public housing authorities, local governments, or nonprofit organizations to conduct audits of single-family or duplex properties in environmental justice communities to identify opportunities for energy savings as part of property renovations. Massachusetts – Mass Save has published a draft of the upcoming 2025-2027 Energy Efficiency and Decarbonization Plan. The MA Energy Efficiency Advisory Council (EEAC) will host listening sessions on the plan on May 13 and June 3. Learn more and register for the listening sessions.

Nevada – The Nevada Clean Energy Fund (NCEF) has been selected for a $156 million federal Solar for All grant. Solar for All is part of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Greenhouse Gas Reduction Fund. Learn more. 

New York – The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) has approved New York’s funding application for the Inflation Reduction Act’s Home Energy Rebates and awarded the state an initial $158 million to implement its rebate program to help families save money on energy-efficient electric appliances. New York is the first state to be awarded funding. Learn more.

Vermont – Efficiency Vermont and Rewiring America have published a new energy opportunities calculator. Enter your zip code, household size, income, tax filing, and homeowner status to see a summary of the total incentives available to you. Try it out.

National Industry News

DOE – The U.S. Department of Energy published requirements for the various versions of the Zero Energy Ready Home (ZERH) program as classified by building type. Learn more and view the requirements for each.

EPA – On April 22, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency announced 60 selectees that will receive $7 billion in grant awards through the Solar for All grant competition to deliver residential solar projects to over 900,000 households nationwide. Learn more.

HUD – The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) announced nearly $70 million in grants across the country that will help transform communities by fixing older housing, preserving affordable housing, and improving the health of children and families in these communities.
