Building Performance Strategies’ BPI Building Science Principles (BSP) course aligns with the professional standards of excellence set forth by the Building Performance Institute (BPI).

This is a BPI pre-requisite course for the new Building Analyst – Technician Certification. This BPI training will provide individuals with the knowledge, skills, and preparation needed to excel in the home energy performance industry.

Earning the Building Science Principles (BSP) Certificate of Knowledge is your first step into the world of energy efficient home performance. You will learn some of the widely-used industry terminology related to building science. Building science demonstrates how various components of a home interact to affect the home’s overall performance. Understanding the relationships between the building envelope, heating, A/C, insulation, mechanical ventilation, lighting, appliances and other systems of the home will enable you to assist yourself and others. Learn how these systems affect the comfort, health and safety of occupants and durability of the home. Discover why improving the energy efficiency of the home should be the first step toward solar, geothermal, or other renewable energy improvements.

This BPI Building Science Principles course is a training course to obtain the knowledge about “the house is a system”. Obtaining the certificate of knowledge requires a passing grade on BPI’s written examination.

The BPI Building Analyst Technician (BA-T) certification is an early-career credential for workers in the home performance industry. This certification gives a great entrance to the industry while providing a clear path for professional growth.

A BA-T’s work includes data collection and diagnostic testing for a whole-home assessments. The BA-T’s skills and knowledge include: buildings & their systems, testing & data collection, and industry standards.

The BA-T is earned by passing a field test with oral questions.
